Beaver Excavation Threatens New Residential Area in Dordrecht

Rapid Response Prevents Flooding Risk

This spring, a serious situation emerged in a residential development under construction in Dordrecht, where approximately 150 homes were put at risk due to severe damage to a dike caused by beaver activity. As a result, the flood protection function of the dike was compromised, increasing the risk of flooding for future residents.

Thanks to the rapid intervention of Dutch Water Management, further damage was prevented. By installing a plastic sheet pile wall, which not only reinforces the flood defence structure but also serves as an anti-rodent and crayfish barrier, the stability of the dike was restored and future excavation and gnawing damage was effectively prevented.

  • Prevents settlement and subsidence of the dike structure
  • Protects against burrowing and gnawing animals
  • Durable and maintenance-free solutions
  • Protects infrastructure and residential properties

This is an excellent example of how innovative hydraulic engineering solutions contribute to a safe and resilient living environment.
