Tilting weirs for water storage
Maximum control in a complex environment
Controlled design and execution
The water storage facility is equipped with three tilting weirs, each 3 meters high, installed within a concrete culvert. The design of the weirs and the concrete structure took place almost simultaneously. This required a high level of process control, with weekly coordination between all disciplines and involved parties. Through this close collaboration, design choices, scheduling, and execution could be continuously monitored and adjusted. Thanks to the EN 1090 certification, KWT was able to demonstrably guarantee this quality and safety assurance.
Meeting stringent requirements
The design and production process had to meet the high standards of both grid operator TenneT and the De Dommel Water Board. The focus was on:
-
Reliable operation and functionality
-
Precise opening and closing times
-
Optimal integration into the concrete structure
-
Comprehensive quality control (including X-ray inspection of welding work)
Efficient installation under control
On February 7th, the first tilting weir was successfully installed along the Midden-Brabantweg. Due to thorough preparation and tight management, the hoisting and positioning were completed within half an hour. The full installation was significantly faster than conventional methods, with minimal risks and maximum control over the process.
